I was asked to contribute a song to the compilation CD Canada Bittersweet: Songs of the New Depression, and chose this tune about figure skating champion Karen Magnussen. Some folks at CBC Radio had the brilliant idea of arranging a phone interview with me and Karen, who lives in Vancouver. It was a lot of fun, and Karen was very touched by the idea that someone would write a sing about her. This led to another CBC producer to invite both of us on the national talk show Friday Night with Ralph Benmurgui. I performed the song with the show's house band and the Shuffle Demons on horns, while they ran vintage clips of Karen performing at the Olympics. Then I sat down with Ralph and they brought Karen out - she cried at one point because she was so moved. It was a really great moment.
